Martin Mellish’s Tai Chi and Chi Kung Program

I teach the following classes on the Eastside:

Beginning Yang Style Classes are an excellent introduction to T’ai Chi for people with no previous experience. You will learn a simple form that takes five minutes to do on a daily basis and I will also introduce most of the basic concepts of T’ai Chi and explain why and how it works.

Beginning Chen Style Classes are a good introduction to the Chen Style and also a preparation for some of Master Gao’s classes.

Chi Kung will include breathing, relaxation and visualization practices, the Five Animal forms (imitations of the movements of the Crane, Tiger, Bear, Deer, and Monkey) cleansing of body, mind, and spirit, the Healing Sounds, and exercises designed to open the joints and energy channels of the body.

Push Hands is the name given to a variety of two-person T’ai Chi exercises that develop sensitivity to and awareness of the flow of your partner’s energies and your own. It was formerly used as a preparation for self-defense, but most modern practitioners are more interested in:

There are no specific pre-requisites for this class, but I do like to talk with people first.

Chen Style Sword Workshops are designed both to teach the Chen sword form to new students and to allow those who followed Master Gao Fu’s workshops last year to go deeper. The workshops are structured as follows:

Private sessions are $50 per single person or $60 for two or more, for a one-hour session.
